Kids ATVs

By james | January 19, 2012

When looking for a kids ATV or youth ATV  the parent or guardian needs to consider several factors. First of all the size of the child. What is the height of the rider or inseam measurement. The rider needs to be able to mount the ATV, sit on the ATV and also reach the controls in a safe manor to enable them to operate the vehicle. Second the weight of the rider. You wouldn’t want to have a 150 lb rider attempt to ride on a 110cc ATV. Get something larger for this rider in the 150cc ATV range. Third, consider the riding capability or experience of the operator. Has the rider ever ridden an ATV with a clutch, large tires and shifter? Is the speed of the vehicle going to be to much. Please consider all of these elements before your purchase and remember to always ride safe. XTPowersports.com

Pit Bike Racing

By james | January 12, 2012

Pit bike racing is a competition sport very similar to dirt bike racing, except a pit bike is slightly smaller than an average dirt bike. A typical pit bike event consists of numerous classes designated by bike types racing for a set amount of laps on a track during two or more outings. The winner is determined by the highest average position at the end of the event, and most often, trophies are awarded. However, there is a variety of other race types for a pit bike enthusiast.

Primarily, motocross is the most common disciple of pit bikes. Due to large jumps that can far exceed ten feet into the air, a shock upgrade is required. There is a very high chance of injury in motocross racing. Secondly, pit park is the newest type of racing for pit bikes, and is very similar to BMX. The dangers involved with pit park are very similar to those of BMX. Third is street biking, which involves being able to maneuver any obstacle that is thrown at the rider. These obstacles can include stairs, ledges, curbs, walls, and anything else. In certain countries it is illegal to use pit bikes on sidewalks, so be sure to check your local, state, and federal laws before hitting the sidewalk. The last category is stunt racing, which is characterized by stunts involving acrobatic maneuvering of the motorcycle—and sometimes the rider. Common stunts included wheelies, stoppies, and burnouts. Serious stunting requires many modifications, including pegs and other optional modifications such as foot throttles.

Pit bike racing can be a dangerous sport, so be sure to contact the professionals at XT Powersports before attempting any racing or stunts. Our team of dedicated professionals can help you customize your dream pit bike. Call us today at 1-866-841-4206.

What to Wear When Riding Your ATV

By james | November 4, 2011

Wearing the proper gear when riding your ATV can protect your body as well as enhance your performance. Wearing a helmet is essential, but here is some other protective gear that is well worth the investment:

Goggles: Goggles protect your eyes from the glare of the sun and from the flying dirt/debris you may encounter when you ride.

Gloves: Riding gloves are tight-fitting and include protective padding in the palm area, back of the hand, and fingers of the glove. Riding gloves protect the rider’s hands from blisters and burns from riding their ATV.

Riding Pants: Riding pants provide the ATV rider with a much higher level of comfort and safety than an old pair of jeans could offer them. Riding pants are durable and feature protective padding where the rider needs it most.

Riding jacket: Wearing a riding jacket can protect the ATV rider from rainy weather and debris that they may encounter. When purchasing a riding jacket, be sure to consider the jacket’s air vents in the upper arm and back area. These air pockets can be easily opened and closed with a zipper so the rider can keep cool during hot days in Florida.

Riding Boots: Strong and durable riding boots provide comfort for the ATV rider because most ATV riders move their legs and feet quite a bit during their ride. Also, good cleats on the bottom of the boots will help the rider walk through mud and other terrains.

History of Pit Bikes

By james | October 19, 2011

A pit bike is a small motorcycle that can be ridden on or off the road. Pit bikes were first used to ride around the staging areas, known as “pits”, at motocross races. Pit bikes were easy for people to use at motocross races because they were small and cheap.

Since 2000, pit bike racing has become an extremely popular sport of its own. In the US, especially in the southern part of California, pit bike racing is now very common. When pit bikes started becoming popular, Honda changed a few aspects of their pit bike including the name, gas tank, rear shocks, spoke wheels, seat, frame, etc. As teenagers and young adults began to use these pit bikes, other companies started making aftermarket parts for pit bikes that made them more comfortable and more powerful for teenagers and adults to ride. As more and more people put these upgraded parts on their pit bikes, pit bike racing in the US rose in popularity.

How to Ride A Pit Bike

By james | October 13, 2011

Pit bikes are extremely fun to ride. However, there is a correct way to ride them. Here are some tips.

Once you reach your desired speed on your pit bike, slant your back at a 45 degree angle, bend your arms at a 90 degree angle, and stand up on your bike. By standing up, your legs and arms act as extra suspension when riding over uneven surfaces and bumps. This keeps you in better control of your pit bike.

The key to executing a flawless turn with maximum speed is having control of your bike. When approaching a turn, pick a good line in the track that you fill comfortable with and ride that line. Stick with it and keep steady power on your bike as you go through the turn.

Most importantly, don’t get too cocky in the way you drive your pit bike. Always drive carefully and make sure you are confident in your driving ability. Hitting new jumps can be intimidating if you are not comfortable with your driving ability yet. Reckless driving is very dangerous and could result in serious injury or even death.

How To Maintain A Pit Bike

By james | October 5, 2011

When purchasing a pit bike it’s very important to correctly maintain the pit bike to ensure it will last for many years. First make sure to clean the air filter often. The air filter should first be cleaned with soap and water. Then it should be oiled with a proper filter oil. Lightly oil the filter. This will ensure that the dirt sticks to the filter and doesn’t enter the carb. Second change the oil often depending on how hard you ride the bike. Here at XTPowersports.com we recommend changing the oil every 5-7 hours of riding. Some riders change their oil after every race day. This is because they are really pushing the bike hard for a short durations. Third after each ride make it a habit of going over the bike and checking all bolts, screws, sprockets etc. Anything that can vibrate loose will so make sure to keep them tight. It’s also a good idea to use locktite to ensure these items won’t come loose. Give us a call at XTPowersports.com if you have any questions 866-841-4206.
